1291BR Single-Axis Rate Table

1291BR The Ideal Aerosmith 1291BR Series was conceived as a cost-effective alternative to traditional, much larger single-axis table systems, primarily for MEMS development applications. The MEMS inertial gyro technology revolution didn't dictate the same test requirements as earlier inertial packages. MEMS testing no longer required tables designed for 200 lb payloads and real-time HWIL. Thus, the 1291BR was born to fill this niche. Now, four years later, the 1291BR Series is still popular for its original intended application of MEMS development, but has also found homes in numerous other applications as well including high volume MEMS production testing, camera stabilization, AHRS testing, smart projectile testing, tachometer testing, even satellite imagery simulation.

Cost Effective UAV Hardware-in-the-Loop Flight Motion Simulation System

Simulate low dynamic UAV flight profiles with the Ideal Aerosmith Model 1573-FMS Three-axis Motion Simulator. The system can be driven directly from Flight Simulation computers that output real-time pitch, roll, and yaw data at frame rates up to 256 Hz via RS-232 or IEEE-488 interfaces. The 1573-FMS system features typical bandwidths of 25 Hz in roll, 12 Hz in pitch, and 7 Hz in yaw. The standard system allows unlimited rotation in the yaw axis, and +/- 185 degrees of freedom in pitch and roll axes.

Tech Brief

Optical Encoders

Ideal Aerosmith utilizes the optical encoder on single and multi-axis test tables to measure axis position.

System Basics
Photoelectric Scanning PrincipleAn optical encoder rotates a disk with precisely laser-etched lines over 360º. An LED light source shines through the etched glass disk, producing a refracted beam that stimulates four photodiodes. As the shaft rotates, the photodiodes generate four sinusoidal signals each phase shifted by 90º with a period of 360º per line count. Higher resolution is obtained by increasing the lines on the disk and by dividing the amplitude of the sine wave into smaller divisions. The number of laser-etched line and total interpolation factor are multiplied to calculate the overall resolution of the system. Ideal Aerosmith systems currently use optical encoders ranging from 3,600 lines to 32,768 lines per revolution and interpolators ranging from 200X to 8,192X. This range of products allows us to provide position and rate resolutions as fine as 0.00001 degrees and 0.00001 degrees/second and with far less interpolation error than is found using other feedback devices.

System Construction and Reliability
Optical EncoderMost Ideal Aerosmith products contain an optical encoder that is a single-piece, self-contained unit. It has an integral bearing and coupling that mounts directly onto the axis shaft. The LED light source, disk and bearing are all enclosed in a sealed rugged aluminum case. The optical encoder has proven to be extremely reliable in the field.

Contract Manufacturing Services by Ideal Aerosmith

Contract Manufacturing Choosing the right outsourcing partner is a critical decision. Over the last 10 years, we have learned that when companies decide to outsource the build of products or sub-assemblies to a contract manufacturer, they are placing their company's reputation in someone else's hands. In 1995 Ideal expanded into the contract manufacturing business by initially providing the service to a major avionics OEM. Since that time, the contract manufacturing business has continued to grow and currently accounts for a significant portion of our annual revenue. All of our customers expect their projects to be completed on-time, in budget and to specification. Ideal meets and exceeds these expectations.

Managing Test System Obsolescence

Obsolescence has become a major issue facing the military and commercial avionics test system users as they try to keep their test systems operational for the life-cycle of the products being tested. The cause of the problem is obsolete components, vanishing vendors, and the loss of test system design knowledge. Particularly challenging is the limited life of RF and optical test instrumentation, which quickly depletes their availability in the used equipment market.

Test Electro-Optic Systems with 2 and 3-Axis Precision Motion & Positioning Systems

Ideal Aerosmith has designed a broad array of 2 and 3-axis positioning systems for testing military Electro-optic seekers, FLIR pods and cameras, targeting systems, etc. Typically these systems are mechanically customized to suit unique UUT test requirements including unobstructed Field of View and access for liquid coolant lines. Often, sinusoidal motion or broadband white noise motion (for frequency response and power spectral density tests) are required and are easily simulated with Ideal's motion controllers.
